Scott Swartz has been a practicing attorney for over 25 years. During that span he has focused on counseling families, private businesses and multi-generation trusts on matters of income and business taxation, estate planning, asset protection and business succession. Much of his work has been targeted to counsel of clients on integrated effects of income, business, and estate tax obligations, and finding solutions and planning ideas to reduce clients’ tax burdens. For Wellspring, Scott splits his time between general counsel duties and advising Wellspring’s high net worth families.
Prior to entering law Scott was an active certified public accountant in Cleveland. He obtained his bachelor degree with majors in accounting and finance from Bowling Green State University, his law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, and his Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University. Mr. Swartz has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law in the Graduate Tax Program at Case Western University’s School of Law, and in the Masters of Accounting program at Cleveland State University. He is now teaching a course in case studies of wealth management at John Carroll University.
Scott served two terms on the board of the Estate Planning Council of Cleveland and on the board and as President of the Tax Club of Cleveland. He is the author and presenter of monthly tax update reports to the Cleveland chapter of the Estate Planning Council and writes the tax update column for the National Estate Planning Council’s Journal of Estate & Tax Planning. Scott has completed three elected terms on the Board of Education for the Rocky River City School District.
